This is a slide show of Downtown Transportation Center (DTC) in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The property is owned by County of Clark and leased to the City of Las Vegas. It is part of the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) which is county-owned and operated.
Recent events by the City of Las Vegas and Clark County have presented aggressive and hostile acts against the homeless citizens of Las Vegas by denying them a place to rest or sleep on public property.
Armed security guards and local police patrol the premises and the homeless and poor citizens are either told to leave the property or they are arrested for loitering or trespass and jailed.
All the vending machines have been removed; including soda machines; snack machines, pay telephones, newspaper machines, ATMs and all other coin operated machines in order to discourage the homeless from being on public property and so authorities can exercise loitering charges.
The outside restrooms do not have soap in the soap dispensers after over a year of fighting for them. There are no hand dryers in the outside restrooms and the city and county place the public at large at a serious health risk.
The facility has offered shade and rest for thousands of Las Vegas homeless for years, but Mayor Oscar Goodman and local officials are now preventing that.
The homeless have no other place to go to protect themselves from the soaring three-digit temperatures in the summer months.
