01 November 2011

Just like locals will tell you, the temperatures drop after Halloween. Only one day during October did I need to turn the heat on.

As mentioned below, from last month's statement which I left posted, Halloween marks the second anniversary, the morning of 31 October 2009, I had my stroke while waiting at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Christian Central Church bag lunch.

It was an event that really changed my life, both actually, for better and worse.

Day light saving time ends on 06 November 2011 at 2:00a.m. Clocks will be set back at that time.

I've looked at some alternative hosts and web servers for the new sites of Christian River and the RIVER Organization.

I've decided to spinoff the Christian River site from the original RIVER Organization site and make them two separate sites with improved websites focusing on a more defined audience.

Christian River will deal primarily with the humanitarian effort, namely the Do-It-Yourself, Direct-to-the-Streets programs we'll be teaching others how to do. It won't have much involvement in anything else, and will focus only on feeding the hungry and preparing basic survival needs for the street people.

The RIVER Organization, on the other hand will resume its original mission. RO will cover articles dealing with poverty in general, but mainly homelessness, feeding the hungry, helping the needy and giving to the poor and presenting the Christian ministries.

There have been many options to consider and my poor health hasn't and

financial situation hasn't help me meet any record-breaking deadlines. But I struggle along, hopefully I can put something interesting together.

There are a lot of features in the new themes and servers I've been considering that will reduce the time Microsoft's obsolete site has created, such as built-in spell checker and grammar check.

I've looked at so many alternative choices, the hard part is deciding on which path to take, but I'm fairly certain I will make the transformation within the next couple of months if all goes well.

Spinning off and making two separate sites will give each a unique audience. And, with God's help, I'm learning to tone down my anger from seeing so much destruction while on the streets and among the homeless. I hope the new sites reflect that appearance.

I'm really excited about them.

From Last Month's Statement

I finished my last sleep study which was interrupted during the time I was in the hospital and physical rehabilitation hospital. I failed the sleep study miserably. But the good news is the breathing machine they put on me during that last sleep study visit proved without a reasonable doubt that I do have sleep disorders. The bad news is I can't afford the machine.

The remarkable results I learned from this study, which is heart and vascular related, is that using the breathing machine during sleep over night makes life-changing changes. I mean it is like a miracle the improvements are.

My primary focus will be to find a way to get one of those CPAP machines because it makes the difference of my being functional or dysfunctional. Seriously. If you want to read my story about my experience with sleep study and see a photo of me hooked up with the monitor and mask visit the Christian River Blog  by clicking on the link.

If I can get that machine I know I'd be able to do ten times more than I can now. I wouldn't be cured of my major problem--the stroke damage--but I would still be so much better off than I am now.

I hope to have my CTA, a brain scan, to see the extent of damage to my brain within this next month.

It's been two years this month since I had my stroke which was on Saturday, 31 October 2009 while standing in a Christian Central Church bagged lunch food line at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission. Two years! Can you imagine that? And not one brain scan has yet been conducted although I've racked up over a half million dollars of medical bills since then and have been in the hospital three times and I have been under constant medical care.

Not one brain scan to see the extent of damage to my brain from the stroke of October 2009.

Well, I hope to find out soon, and with the results of the brain scan perhaps I can learn what might be done, if anything to correct my condition.

I also soon hope to make contact with some old friends I haven't been in contact with lately, mostly because of my illnesses.

I'm also working daily on one of my books, Christian River: How to start a Direct-to-the-Streets Do-it-Yourself Charity The first draft ought to be completed in a couple of months if everything goes right. Then I will have a lot of re-writing to do, a lot of polishing and editing and then time trying to get it published. I most likely will leave that up to my literary agent and keep my fingers crossed on the publishing part. It certainly would not likely be published for another year or too, in the meantime I would work on other projects.

That’s a distant dream. But if the dream survived the RIVER Organization could survive and become a reality in true existence.

This thing called the Great Recession is still with us. Some so-called experts had said we came out of the recession and now we are going back into one. In Vegas at least, we never left the recession. We entered it around the late 2006 and early 2007 and from then on we’ve been right smack in the eye of the storm.

Prices keep going up. Rent. Food. Transportation. Storage Units. Medical expenses. It just never gets easier. Every month more and more people lose their jobs, their vehicles, their homes, their happiness--their life. Every month more and more people fall into poverty. Every month more and more people become homeless. Every month more and more people go to bed hungry. Every month there are fewer and fewer people helping them. And yet… those in 501 nonprofits with excessive salaries keep trying to rationalize why they are worth the money they are reaping.

One day Christian River will mean something. One day people will follow the Christian River Humanitarian Effort and end the obnoxious glutting in the nonprofit business.

Hopefully my book can make a difference. Until then it is still a dog-eat-dog world. Helping others learn how to survive that world is what Christian River is all about.

Well, I'm off for my long walk.

Beware of Scams and Shysters

When donating clothing and articles for Direct-to-the-Streets humanitarian operations or any charity beware of scams and shysters. Look for proof or evidence of their performing what they say they are performing. A proven track record helps promote future donations. There are many people out there who "collect for the homeless" and only do so to scam you out of your donations. So, beware! Doing the charity yourself or through trusted family, friends and/or acquaintances reduces the evils you are trying to avoid.

Homelessness is a destructive thing in the lives of the homeless and their family. Finding a missing love one can be a trying and exhausting experience filled with a roller coaster of emotions.

I will update this post as soon as new information is available. Thanks to all involved in the search for the missing. We continue to search for Rick Smith until we find him.

Important Notice!

This site is a Microsoft Office Live Small Business hosted website. Microsoft has changed its platform and will discontinue Office Live in the months ahead and begin a new software called Office 365. I don't currently see this site following that course as it doesn't provide the options best suited to this communication site. A notice will be posted as soon as an alternative host is selected.

Update 13 November 2011

I've contracted with HostMonster for two years to web host some of my websites and blogs. A portion of those sites will also be partnered with WordPress.org and/or WordPress.com. HostMonster is one of the oldest webhosting companies on the Internet and one of the best reviewed. WordPress is a world renown blogging platform that has since expanded into many other avenues of Internet software, applications, plugins and widgets to bring publishing into a new generation.

The partnership of HostMonster and WordPress as well as other unique features will enhance the Cliff Harrison Network, The Christian River Network and the RIVER Organization into the future.

If I survive and recover from my heart operation in the next couple of weeks I hope to update the system networks with enhanced media and communication features that I intended to launch several years ago.

Please note that I will begin "stripping" and migrating this site into different locations before actually transferring the entire remaining site to a new RIVER Organization website. The RIVER Organization will remain the original vision with a Conservative Christian focus while the Christian River.Org (The Christian River Humanitarian Effort) website will focus primarily on Do-It-Yourself, Direct-to-the-Streets charity, How-to-do-it, media coverage and stories of street activities, people volunteering for these charity efforts, sharing of ideas, stories and experience and similar things.

Although Christian River is Christian based, the religious voice will be toned down to a degree that encourages non-Christians as well as non-conservatives to join us in meeting the humanitarian needs of those suffering homelessness, hunger and other avenues of poverty. Politics and religion, although favor subjects of mine will be greatly reduced in the central theme of the effort as humanitarianism is the primary focus.

That does not mean that I or the Christians who join us will abandon our love and duty to God, to Jesus Christ, our Lord, it simply means on this site we just won’t be as vocal or preachy. There will be sections addressing the Christians however and non-Christians who desire to join our effort need to be flexible to endure these instructions, usually “how-to” articles for Christian Ministries.

You can't please everyone so sometimes you have to please yourself. The fact is that there are many people concerned with poverty. These people hail from Christian organizations as well as non-Christians. They come from many different political convictions and attitude. As well as many different Christian groups. I have personally gotten along with many people over the years in the humanitarian effort with us all coming from different political and religious convictions.

No one political party or religion or secular group dominates humanity. Humanitarianism is everyone's concern--or ought to be.

For those who can't get along with us and work together, well then this just isn't for them and they need to move along.

We need to respect one another. I will demand that in the comment areas of the new websites and blogs within the networks.

The Christian River Network Christian River Network and the Christian River Magazine Christian River Magazine will focus on collections of media and communications aspirations within the Christian River Group. The magazine will be like any other magazine covering interviews with people in the volunteer charity effort, the homeless, the hungry, the needy and the poor--poverty in general. It will cover news and features, legislation and opinions, proposals and ideas, Letters-to-the-Editors and much more.

But hey, first things first.

To beat the deadline of this site going down at Microsoft's choosing, I've got a lot of work to do and with upcoming surgery, little time to do it in. So, it might look a little ugly for awhile. Just think of it as the opposite of a facelift, whatever that is.

Finally, much of the material from this site will go into archives, some public, some private.

But first, I've got to survive the surgery and then recover. Until then, remember these words:

Charity is Power

Help somebody. Few people succeed alone. If you help somebody who's down on his luck, you might be contributing to somebody else's success. Many people find that surprisingly rewarding—powerful, even. It might also make you more inclined to ask for help yourself when you need it. Which might turn out to be the smartest thing you ever did.--Rick Newman, U.S. News & World Report

Christain River.Org

Christian River. NET

Also, current plans are to divide or spinoff the website into the two original, but separate, ideas of the RIVER Organization and the Christian River Humanitarian Effort. This will allow a more harmonious

& balanced platform within the network as each site is reshaped with a focus on a more defined audience.

Despite past hard feelings with Microsoft for constantly starting and then ending social network sites--which is frustrating as heck--I want to say thank you for helping me become experienced with webmaster skills.

Corrupt Government Breeds Disrespect

To date, the United States Department of Justice has not enforced the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) or brought a lawsuit against the City of Las Vegas, County of Clark or Metro Police Department for the illegal obstruction of sidewalks. Crippled and handicapped persons in wheelchairs or walkers must use the dangerous streets to travel since the sidewalks along Foremaster and Main Street are blocked with barricades to prevent the homeless from sleeping on the sidewalks. No nonprofit has acted on behalf of the handicapped, homeless, veterans or any other group denied their lawful constitutional rights. The ACLU has not acted. The local press has not covered the illegal action by local officials.

I intend to start bringing these issues to national attention. I will soon file complaints with federal authorities since not a single Las Vegas "charity" has come to the aid of the Las Vegas disabled.

I still have one year left to file a lawsuit against the City of Las Vegas, the County of Clark and the State of Nevada and the corrupt officials of those governments.

The more public exposure we have the better. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas no more.

These People Are In Their 80s. Their Social Security Income won't cover an apartment so they spend a week at a cheap motel and then a week on the streets and alternate every other week.  They helped build America, but Vegas is cruel to them. He was arrested and jailed for sleeping at a park table. Would you want your parents or grandparents to live like this? There are thousands of homeless seniors just like them in Vegas.
